Frequently Asked Questions

What Is SOlar Energy?

Solar energy refers to the light and heat from the sun that can be harnessed to generate electricity. Solar energy is abundant and renewable, making it an ideal energy source for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, mitigating climate change, and decreasing our dependence on finite fossil fuels. By implementing a home solar power system, you can turn solar energy into real electricity for your house.

Most solar panels come standard with a solar inverter that will transfer solar energy into raw electricity, ultimately powering your home. However, a few designs are actually a step up. For example, micro-inverter designs, like the Enphase and the SolarEdge, will convert solar energy into electricity more efficiently within your photovoltaic (PV) system. Furthermore, these smart converters may monitor and display the performance of each solar panel, allowing you to see which panels are generating the most energy.

Any inverter will do the trick for smaller operations, but an Enphase inverter offers a few advantages. J-Tech strongly recommends Enphase for its micro-inverter technology. This allows each panel connected in a unit to perform at its peak, regardless of any issues the panel before it may be experiencing. These inverters are even capable of bypassing shade and absorbing UV rays through the clouds. Ask our team about implementing Enphase inverters when setting up your solar panels.

While it isn’t likely that a single solar panel will power your entire home, it will still offset some of the costs. We recommend installing all of your solar panels at once to reduce the cost of labor and to start saving even more money right away. Nevertheless, any number of solar panels are better than zero!

A residential solar panel will generate anywhere from 250 to 400 watts of power each hour. For context, the average American home requires about 30,000 watts each day, or about 1,250 per hour. This means that anywhere from 3 to 5 solar panels will power your home during the day. Even so, having any number of solar panels installed will help mitigate some of your costs. But also keep in mind that due to the number of sunlight hours, your house will usually demand even more panels to fully offset your costs.

Can I install solar panels by myself?

While it is technically possible to install solar panels yourself, it is generally recommended to hire a professional solar installation company. To ensure maximum energy output, professionals will consider the positioning and alignment of the panels while working. Working with heavy equipment and electrical components while balancing on a roof can also be dangerous, so stick with J-Tech for solar installation.

Is Solar Energy Renewable?

Yes! Renewable energy comes from an unlimited source that replenishes itself over time. The sun is an example, as it emits a vast amount of light and heat that can be harnessed for solar energy without reducing the sun’s output. Simply put, as long as the sun exists, we’ll have plenty of solar energy to power our panels!

What are the environmental benefits of solar energy?

Solar energy is a renewable and sustainable energy source, meaning that it cannot be exhausted. Furthermore, the harvesting of solar energy is a lot healthier for the planet than other means of energy production. Solar panels do not emit greenhouse gasses, pollute the air, consume water, or take up a lot of space, like some other forms of natural energy.

Do solar panels make noise?

Not really. The assumption that solar panels make a lot of noise is a misconception. The solar converters, which transform solar energy into usable electricity, can make some noise, but the solar panels themselves work without producing noise pollution. Unlike certain power generation methods, such as fossil fuel power plants, solar panels operate nearly silently, making solar energy a quiet and non-disruptive energy source.
