Easy DIY for the New Year
Each New Year is a great time for a fresh start. Many people find themselves making resolutions and taking on projects. It’s a prime time to revamp the look of your home. Take a look at some of these easy DIY projects to help you get started.
First, many homeowners find that simply repainting can really liven up a space. When it comes to interior home improvement, it’s number one. But before you get started, make sure you’ve got all the right tools on hand. Any professional will tell you that most of the work is the prep, aside from picking out the color that is. Move the furniture out of the room you plan to paint, and lay down something to protect the floors. Also, you’ll need to remove the outlet covers and any other wall fixtures. Make sure to apply painters tape around windows, baseboards, and the ceiling. Now get your paint on.
Spruce Up the Cabinets
The end result of installing new cabinets can be fantastic. However, keep in mind that this project is definitely more difficult than painting a room. Before you get started, look online for some detailed resources on how to replace cabinets. For example, we like this guide. Enlist some friends to help and you can get it done twice as quick.
In reality, a lot of people can’t just shell out the money for a complete kitchen remodel. But, there are some inexpensive things you can do that will make it seem as though you’ve remodeled. Rather than replacing the cabinets, you can save a ton of money by simply painting them. Also, there is a lot of great backsplash on the market that is cheap and looks great.
Light the Way
Illuminate your space by changing up the light fixtures. By switching out light fixtures you can make your home seem more modern. Adding some nice lamps or even recessed lighting can give your home a nice glow. Or, merely changing a lampshade can do the trick. Light fixture replacements are a great DIY, that can be cheap too.
Beautify the Bathroom
It doesn’t take much to make your bathroom look pristine. You could go all out and install a whole new vanity. On the other hand, a set of new towels and rugs can make a bathroom look and feel brand new. Install new fixtures for that nice modern feel.
The entryway is one of the first things you’ll see when you get home. Making some simple changes can make it feel more inviting. One idea, is to replace or even repaint your front door. Sometimes, a brightly colored or intricate front door can really make a house pop. Again, changing light fixtures is always an easy fix. In addition, put up some new house numbers that are more your style.
Outstanding Outdoor Space
DIY doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors. Try livening up the outdoors too. If you have a deck or patio, spruce it up. If not, that is a good project to tackle. Another great idea is adding string lights to create a cozy outdoor area. Install a fire pit for an awesome center point, and make smores year round.
Less is More
Sometimes, all you need to do is get rid of some of the junk. If you’ve got extra furniture, it could close off an area and make it feel small. Don’t put too many nic nacs on furniture surfaces, this can make it appear more cluttered. Donate any unwanted items. This is a great DIY that won’t cost you a penny.
